I'm keeping with the summer theme...and planned for boats today. My little REALLY loves cars, but I thought another mode of transportation would be fun.
I started with talking about where boats are used and where we see them. This would be a good time to look through old magazines and make a collage of all the boats you can find . Here's how our version turned out:

I incorporated the story of Jonah and the Whale. It's a great lesson for obedience even when you don't want to do what you're asked. It's also about God's forgiveness. I used the story for preschoolers from Danielle's Place. I like how she told the story to relate to little ones. Then, we made a boat on our felt board (read: couch) and talked more about boats. I wanted to make a felt whale and Jonah, but just didn't have time, so we colored a picture. Kids always love to color! I got the coloring picture here. (scroll down to find the Jonah picture).
I also read from my little's Bible that he got from his Godfather and Godmother.
Lastly, we made jello oceans with fish. Normally you would put gummy fish. We used what we had on hand and put in pretzel fish. He loved making it!! He wasn't too sure about eating it though. Doesn't matter- there is so much to talk about when you're cooking. Measurements, pouring, mixing- talk about the whole process as you're doing it together. Please don't judge my messy kitchen LOL! And terrible lighting. Our house is so dark.
I did not get a finished picture, but they turned out well in the little cups.
